How to make an appointment

When you go to your appointment, the clinic will confirm your eligibility for free or low-cost care.
If you’re nervous, here’s some guidance on what to say:
- To start, say “Hi! My name is _____ and I would like to make an appointment to get birth control.”
- If you know which method you want, say “I want to get _____ . Is that available at this clinic?”
- If you don’t have insurance, say “I need free/low-cost birth control. What do I need to do?”
- If you need an appointment after school, say “I need an appointment at the end of the day because I can’t miss school.”
- If you are under 18, ask “How do you check for parental consent? Is there a form I can get before the appointment to get signed?”
- If they don’t mention what to bring with you, ask “Are there any documents I need to bring to the appointment? Do I need an ID?”
- Write down questions you have for your doctor. Bring them to the appointment so you don’t forget them.
- Ask a friend, family member, or parent to come with you if you need support.
- Try to get to your appointment 15 minutes early so you’ll have time to fill out any necessary paperwork.
